The League of Women Voters of Sudbury supports 20 articles on the Annual Town Meeting warrant, based on local, state and national LWV positions.

The League opposes two warrant articles proposed by citizen petitions, Article 54 to decrease the Community Preservation Act (CPA) surcharge and Article 56 to create a tax surcharge for walkway construction.  LWV has supported the CPA at the state and local levels since the law was created, as a means to fund affordable housing, purchase of open space, recreation, and preservation of historic assets.  While the Sudbury League strongly supports the construction of walkways in town, it believes that should be done within normal budgeting processes.

The League urges Sudbury voters to attend Town Meeting and participate as citizen legislators.   Town Meeting starts Monday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.

League members voted to support these specific articles at Town Meeting:  Article 27 the specialized stretch energy code; Article 28 accessory dwelling units; Article 31 roads, culverts and drainage; Article 34 Atkinson pool renovation; Article 36 classroom instructional equipment; Article 37 English/Language Arts curriculum; Articles 40 and 41 roof replacement at Haynes and Nixon schools; Article 42 Sudbury 250th Committee; and Article 43 acquisition of MBTA buildings.

Of the articles submitted by the Community Preservation Committee under the CPA, Article 46 to fund  Sudbury Housing Authority duplex housing has been indefinitely postponed, so the LWV took no action on it.  The League voted to support the remaining nine CPA articles, Articles 44 and 45 and Articles 47-53.

The League also supports Article 55, proposed by citizen petition, to revise the language of the law that created the means-tested senior tax exemption in Sudbury.

The League does not have positions that cover other warrant articles so cannot take a stand on those articles.
