Primary Election is Tuesday

The state primary election is Tuesday, Sept. 1. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. All six Sudbury precincts vote at the Fairbank Community Center, 40 Fairbank Rd.

Voters will select candidates for the November general election for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, U. S. Senator, state legislators and more. Specimen ballots for the Democratic and Republican primaries are now posted on the Town Clerk’s website. Voters not enrolled in a political party can choose either party’s ballot. 

Mail ballots can be returned to the ballot drop box behind Town Hall, available 24/7 until 8 p.m. on Election Day, or hand-delivered to the Clerk’s office during business hours. It is too late to send your ballot by U.S mail and be assured that it will arrive on time. Mail ballots received after 8 p.m. on Election Day will not be counted, regardless of when they are postmarked.

Mail ballots cannot be returned to the polling place at Fairbank Community Center.

Despite the current news about potential changes to voting by mail, there is no change to voting by mail in this primary election.

Candidate forums for the Democratic primary races for the Governor’s Council third district seat and for the Middlesex District Attorney are now available.

The forum for the third district seat on the Governor’s Council is here. The forum features Mara Dolan of Concord, the incumbent Governor’s Councillor, and Margie Palladino of Wellesley.

The forum for the Middlesex District Attorney is here. Incumbent Marian Ryan of Belmont and David Solet of Cambridge participated in the forum.

The forums were hosted by the League of Women Voters of Newton and co-sponsored by Leagues in towns covered by those races, including the League of Women Voters of Sudbury.
