Governor’s Council, District Attorney Candidate Forums Now Available

Candidate forums for the Democratic primary races for the Governor’s Council third district seat and for the Middlesex District Attorney are now available.

The forum for the third district seat on the Governor’s Council is available here. The forum features Mara Dolan of Concord, the incumbent Governor’s Councillor, and Margie Palladino of Wellesley.

The forum for the Middlesex District Attorney is available here. Incumbent Marian Ryan of Belmont and David Solet of Cambridge participated in the forum.

The forums were hosted by the League of Women Voters of Newton and co-sponsored by Leagues in towns covered by those races, including the League of Women Voters of Sudbury.

The two races are on the Democratic ballot in the Sept. 1 primary election. There are no candidates for Governor’s Council or District Attorney on the Republican primary ballot, so the winners of the Democratic primary will be the only candidates on the November ballot unless there are write-in campaigns.

Early in-person voting for the Sept. 1 primary election begins this Saturday, Aug. 22, and runs through Thursday, Aug. 27. During early voting, all six Sudbury precincts vote at Town Hall, 322 Concord Rd.

The schedule for in-person early voting is:

Saturday, Aug. 22         9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 24          9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 25          9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 26    9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 27        9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Election Day Tuesday, Sept. 1, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. All six Sudbury precincts vote at the Fairbank Community Center, 40 Fairbank Rd., on Election Day.

Specimen ballots for the Democratic and Republican primaries are now posted on the Town Clerk’s website. 

The last day to register to vote in the primary election is 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. You can register at the Town Clerk’s office, 322 Concord Rd., or online at www.VoteInMA.com. You can also use that website to check your registration status or update your registration information.

The last day to request a mail ballot is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, according to the Town Clerk’s website. Note that, if you are requesting a mail ballot for the primary election and are unenrolled in a political party, you must specify if you want a Democratic or Republican primary ballot.

You can apply for a mail ballot online at www.VoteInMA.com. You can also use that site to track the status of a mail ballot.

Mail ballots can be returned to the ballot drop box behind Town Hall, available 24/7 until 8 p.m. on Election Day, or hand-delivered to the Clerk’s office during business hours. Mail ballots can also be returned via U.S. mail, but must be mailed in time to be received in the Clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Mail ballots received after that deadline will not be counted, regardless of when they are postmarked.
