How to Vote in Sept. 6 Primary Election

While you are making vacation plans, you can also plan to vote in the primary election Tuesday, Sept. 6, the day after Labor Day. You can vote by mail anytime or in person the week before.

Here are the deadlines and how-to information.

Vote in Person on Election Day: Tuesday, September 6, 2022; polls open 7 AM to 8 PM Town Hall: Precincts 4, 6 Fairbank Gym: Precincts 1, 2, 3, 5

Voter registration for this election: Deadline Saturday, Aug. 27. Town Clerk’s office will be open until 5 p.m. Or you can register online.

Vote early in person: Early in-person voting is available Saturday, Aug. 27, through Friday, Sept. 2, in the Town Clerk’s office, Town Hall, 322 Concord Rd. Voters in all precincts use that location for early voting. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 27, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Vote by mail: The state is currently sending mail ballot applications to all registered voters. If you do not get an application, you can download and print the application here. Note that if you, like over half of Massachusetts voters, are not enrolled in the Democratic or Republican parties, you must specify on the application which primary ballot you want. Applications for mail ballots must be received in the Town Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29. But that will be cutting it close to receive your ballot. If you want a mail ballot, apply as soon as possible.

Once you receive your mail ballot, follow the instructions for filling it out and returning it. You can return it by mail in its postage-paid envelope. You can take it to the Town Clerk’s office. Or you can put it in the ballot dropbox at the rear of Town Hall, 322 Concord Rd., which is available 24/7.

Mail ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Sept. 6. They must be received in the Town Clerk’s office; they cannot be left at polling places.
